O’s continue power barrage in win over Twins

MINNEAPOLIS — Adam Jones, Chris Davis and Mark Trumbo combined for 10 hits, four homers, nine RBIs and seven runs to help lead the Orioles to a 9-2 win over the Twins in the series finale on Wednesday afternoon at Target Field.

Davis fell a triple short of the cycle and had four hits and four RBIs, while Trumbo hit two homers with three RBIs. The two hit back-to-back homers off Twins right-hander Phil Hughes in the fourth, marking the third straight game Baltimore hit consecutive homers — a franchise record. Jones collected four hits, including a two-run blast off reliever Brandon Kintzler in the ninth.

Hughes struggled for the Twins, lasting four innings while allowing five runs on six hits, including three homers. He’s now allowed seven homers in seven starts after giving up 29 in 27 outings last year.

Right-hander Tyler Wilson turned in a strong outing to pick up the win for the Orioles, surrendering two runs on six hits and a walk over seven innings. He gave up a solo shot to Miguel Sano in the second and an RBI single to Danny Santana in the fifth.

MOMENTS THAT MATTEREDO’s make club history: The blasts by Davis and Trumbo in the fourth didn’t just give the Orioles some breathing room. The back-to-back homers marked the first time in franchise history that the O’s had accomplished the feat in three consecutive games.
