Happ hurls gem as Tulowitzki gets to Cain

SAN FRANCISCO — J.A. Happ couldn’t reach perfection Tuesday night, but approaching it was good enough.

The Blue Jays starter pitched a scintillating six-hitter over 8 2/3 innings to subdue the San Francisco Giants in an Interleague affair, 4-0. The last time Happ opposed the Giants and Matt Cain at AT&T Park was June 13, 2012, when Cain pitched a perfect game while dominating Happ and the Astros.

Cain again pitched admirably in an eight-inning effort, exceeding seven innings for the first time since June 28, 2014, against Cincinnati. His chief nemesis was Troy Tulowitzki, who delivered a second-inning homer, a seventh-inning sacrifice fly following Michael Saunders’ triple and a ninth-inning RBI double. Otherwise, Happ truly made things happen while allowing just three runners past first base.
