Roger Federer Practice Session in Rome Draws Record Crowds
- Updated: May 9, 2016
Tennis – Swiss maestro Roger Federer’s practice session at the Foro Italico grounds on Saturday attracted record crowds according to the tournament organizers. The 34-year-old, who was forced to miss the Madrid Masters due to injury at the last minute, arrived on Rime on Saturday morning and took to the court in the evening for a practice session following Tomas Berdych.
The Internazionali BNL is one of the few events on the circuit that Federer has yet to win and nearly 5,000 fans were on the court to cheer him on as he practiced with coach Ivan Ljubicic. Seeded third in Rome, Federer has a bye in the first round and could meet Grigor Dimitrov in the second round, Dominic Thiem in the third round, Kei Nishikori in the quarter-finals and either World No. 1 Novak Djokovic or fifth seed Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals.
