Mother’s Day weekend at Kansas Speedway brings several stories to keep an eye on.
It’ll be the first race at the 1.5-mile track using this year’s low-downforce rules package. Several drivers believe it will have a significant impact on the competition. Others are just looking forward to tackling the Kansas City oval.
“Kansas has widened out and you can run against the fence, which is a line I like,” said Dale Earnhardt Jr. “It’s fast and smooth. We’ve run well there the last several trips so I expect to be competitive.”
Variables that will come into play this weekend are weather conditions and night racing, which several drivers believe will make dialing in their cars a challenge.
“If it’s cool, you’re going to have a lot of grip and speeds are going to be high,” explained AJ ALlmedinger. “Last year, it was warm, the groove widened, and you were slipping and sliding. The Kansas track is very temperature-sensitive.”
Jimmie Johnson has his sights set on preparation for Saturday’s prime-time start.
