‘Cinderella’ DT David Onyemeta goes from Nigeria to Canada to Saints

Defensive tackle David Onyemata is a Nigerian native who had never even held a football in his hands before he walked into his coach’s office at the University of Manitoba in Canada in 2011, looking to try out for the team because he said he had so much “free time.”
Now the 6-foot-4, 300-pounder is the newest member of the New Orleans Saints, after they traded up into the fourth round to draft him.
My take: My first reaction was, “Who?” I had to scroll down a few draft rankings lists to find Onyemata, who was ranked No. 251 overall on ESPN/Scouts Inc. But the answer to that “Who?” question is a fascinating one.
Once again, I don’t love the price the Saints paid to get Onyemata (a fifth-round pick this year and a fifth-round pick in 2017). The …
