Cowboys draft Irish LB Smith despite knee injury

IRVING, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys stopped Jaylon Smith’s slide by selecting the Notre Dame Fighting Irish linebacker in the second round of the NFL draft on Friday, 34th overall.
The Cowboys made the selection knowing Smith will not play in 2016 but also comforted in knowing one of their team doctors, Dr. Daniel Cooper, performed the surgery and is more familiar with Smith’s recovery than anybody.
