Keep an eye on these stories as they develop this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway.
The 2.66-mile Alabama speedway hosts both the NASCAR XFINITY and Sprint Cup Series. It’s the second restrictor-plate stop of the season following February’s Speedweeks at Daytona International Speedway.
“You never know if or when ‘The Big One’ is going to happen at Talladega,” Matt Kenseth said about the track’s reputation for multi-car accidents. “We were leading the race at Daytona, took the white flag and figured there’s always a wreck on the last lap. They never wrecked, so you can never plan for that. You need to race as hard as you can and try to position yourself as far towards the front as you can, and hope if there’s a wreck that it’s behind you.
“The draft is always changing and it’s all about learning to adapt to that to have your car in the right place at the right time.”
JGR Still Hot Carl Edwards has scored back-to-back wins in Bristol and Richmond, and leads the Joe Gibbs Racing brigade into Talladega. The organization has also seen Kyle Busch win twice and Denny Hamlin start the year with a Daytona 500 victory.
