Hargreaves to Tampa

With the No. 11 pick in the 2016 NFL draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select Florida cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III.

At only 5-foot-10, the Tampa born-and-bred Hargreaves does not have the prototypical size NFL teams are looking for in cornerbacks these days, but what he lacks in height, he makes up for in playmaking skill. From the moment he stepped onto the field in Gainesville, Hargreaves was a playmaker. As a true freshman in 2013, he broke up 11 passes and totaled three interceptions. He followed that up with 13 pass breakups and another three picks as a sophomore, and then broke up 14 passes and picked off four during his final, junior season. All told: that’s 38 pass breakups and 10 picks in three years.
Despite the fact that he does not have elite speed or elite athleticism, Hargreaves managed to be around the ball all the time because he displays excellent shadowing ability in man coverage — he recognizes routes …
