San Francisco 49ers GM Trent Baalke told ESPN’s Bob Holtzman that he wouldn’t rule out a Colin Kaepernick trade this week.
If there weren’t so much bad blood between Kaepernick and 49ers management, the sensible move would be to see how Kaepernick looks in Chip Kelly’s offense. In Philadelphia, Kelly could never get the QB situation right, aggressively adding Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez and drafting Matt Barkley.
But this decision is likely out of his hands, and it’s tough to imagine Kaepernick being on the 49ers’ roster when next season begins. Kelly now will likely have to move forward with Blaine Gabbert.
With Kaepernick and Bradford as potential trade chips, this week’s draft could be even more eventful than usual.
