Former NOPD captain who dined with Will Smith hires attorney

NEW ORLEANS — Former New Orleans police captain Billy Ceravolo has hired a criminal defense attorney for guidance during the investigation into the shooting death of former New Orleans Saints defensive end Will Smith.
Ceravolo is a close friend of Smith’s who was out with Smith earlier on the night Smith was shot and killed on April 9 and arrived on the scene shortly after the shooting. Ceravolo has since been removed from service from the NOPD’s reserve division while the investigation is ongoing. According to the NOPD, that decision was made “to protect the integrity of the investigation.”
