Sweden – Basketligan Round 19: No surprise as #1 BC Lulea defeats Umea

BrandonRozzell Coincidentally all visitors won their games. Basketligan top team – BC Lulea (14-3) had no problems winning another game on Tuesday. This time they crushed eighth ranked Umea (3-13) 91-65. The game was mostly controlled by BC Lulea. Umea managed to win second period 27-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Americans were the main players on the court. It was a great evening for guard Brandon Rozzell (188-89, college: VCU) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points and 6 assists. Guard Quinton Upshur (196-93, college: N.Arizona) helped adding 17 points and 5 rebounds. BC Lulea’s coach Peter Oqvist felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side guard Gerald Williams (190-91, college: La Sierra) responded with 16 points. BC Lulea have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place with 14-3 record. Umea lost third consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with 13 games lost. BC Lulea are looking forward to face Sodertalje Kings (#4) at home in the next round. Umea will play against Boras Basket (#3) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series. The game in Jamtland was also worth to mention about. Third ranked Boras Basket (10-7) played at the court of 6th ranked KFUM Jamtland (7-9). Boras Basket managed to secure a 8-point victory 77-69. It was an exceptional evening for the former international Christian Maraker (207-82, college: Pacific) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Fredrik Andersson accounted for 19 points and 8 rebounds. Croatian forward Dino Cinac (201-88) came up with 20 points and 7 rebounds for KFUM Jamtland in the defeat. The victory was the third consecutive win for Boras Basket. They maintain third place with 10-7 record having four points less than leader BC Lulea. KFUM Jamtland lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the seventh position with nine games lost. Boras Basket will play against Umea (#8) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. KFUM Jamtland will play against Nassjo and it may be a tough game between close rivals. 9th ranked Malbas (1-15) were outscored at home by seventh ranked Nassjo (8-9) with the biggest margin this round 91-54 on Tuesday night. Auston Barnes fired 17 points and 4 steals for the winners. Coach Felix Alonso’s team controlled all game and the coach could let to play all 12 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Lasse Elbaek produced 11 points and 7 rebounds for lost side. The victory was the third consecutive win for Nassjo. They moved-up to sixth place. Malbas lost their eighth game in a row.
