The Browns and Eagles made a massive trade on Wednesday, with Philadelphia flying all the way up to No. 2 overall in exchange for a boatload of picks going back to the Browns.
We don’t even know who these teams will take in the draft next Thursday (although we can guess!) but we have a good idea who the first Philly pick will be: Carson Wentz.
With that in mind, let’s look at the winners and losers from this deal because obviously we know everything just minutes and hours after the trade went down.
Winners
Robert Griffin III: While it’s possible the Browns could still take a quarterback in this draft, it sure looks likely that RG3 is going to be the guy for Cleveland in 2016. Having to deal with a rookie quarterback breathing down his neck wouldn’t have been good for anyone involved and now the Browns can just see if they can revive Griffin’s career. He might not be great and he might not be good. But he’s going to get a chance at redemption.
Browns front office: What a coup for Cleveland here to land all these picks. The “Moneyball” portion of the program is in full swing — get as many picks as possible and try to stockpile young talent. Adding an extra first-round pick for next year is huge and the Browns should come out of the first two days of the draft holding some serious talent in an attempt to replenish their roster. They didn’t fall to far at No. 8, especially with quarterbacks going early, and should still land a high-quality prospect with their third pick.
