Sweden – Basketligan Round 17: Boras Basket edges Uppsala Basket by three points

Adnan Chuk The most exciting game of round 17 in the Basketligan took place in Uppsala. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 3rd placed Uppsala Basket (8-6) to sixth ranked Boras Basket (8-7) 75-72 on Tuesday evening. The guests trailed by 2 points after three quarters before their 22-17 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Boras Basket made 18-of-20 free shots (90.0 percent) during the game. Boras Basket outrebounded Uppsala Basket 35-23 including a 28-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was forward Simon Gunnarsson (198-95) who scored 11 points and 9 rebounds. Icelandic point guard Jakob Sigurdarson (192-82, college: Birm.Southern) chipped in 18 points. The former international forward Alexander Lindqvist (205-91, agency: Interperformances) produced 22 points for the hosts. Boras Basket moved-up to fourth place. Uppsala Basket lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the third position with six games lost. Boras Basket are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Malbas (#9) in Malmo in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Uppsala Basket will play on the road against Nassjo (#7) and is hoping to win this game. Leader BC Lulea delivered the twelfth victory. This time they crushed 9th ranked Malbas (1-13) 109-71 in Malmo. American guard Brandon Rozzell (188-89, college: VCU) orchestrated the victory by scoring 20 points and 5 assists. Yannick Anzuluni contributed with 12 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Forward Fredrik Larsson (201-93) answered with 16 points and 6 rebounds for Malbas. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. BC Lulea have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place with 12-3 record. Malbas lost sixth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 13 games lost. BC Lulea will play against KFUM Jamtland (#6) at home in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Malbas will play against Boras Basket to get more than just one victory in their record. In the last game of round 17 Umea were crushed by Norrkoping in Norrkoping 99-79.
