The game between second ranked Kormend (6-2) and tenth ranked Jaszberenyi (4-5) was the most important one in the last round on Saturday night. Kormend was defeated by Jaszberenyi in a tough game in Jaszberenyi 88-95. Jaszberenyi forced 20 Kormend turnovers. 26 personal fouls committed by Kormend helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Serbian power forward Svetozar Stamenkovic (206-90) who scored 19 points and 8 rebounds. American guard Brent Arrington (190, college: Morehead St.) chipped in 19 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Lenzelle Smith Jr. (193-91, college: Ohio St.) who recorded 22 points and 7 rebounds. Jaszberenyi moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Sopron KC and Falco KC. Kormend at the other side keeps the second position with two games lost. Jaszberenyi is looking forward to face higher ranked PVSK Pannon (#6) in Pecs in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Kormend will play on the road against KTE-Duna (#12) in Kecskemet and is hoping to win this game. Very important is a road loss of second ranked Kormend (6-2) against eighth ranked Falco KC (4-5) on Tuesday night. Visiting Kormend was defeated by Falco KC in Szombathely 85-69. It was a good game for American point guard Darrin Govens (185-88, college: St.Joseph’s) who led his team to a victory with 29 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Lester Medford contributed with 19 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. American forward Terry Allen (203-93, college: Richmond) answered with 19 points and 6 rebounds for Kormend. Falco KC maintains eighth place with 4-5 record, which they share with Sopron KC and Jaszberenyi. Kormend at the other side keeps the second position with two games lost. Falco KC will play against higher ranked Kaposvari (#3) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Kormend will play against KTE-Duna in Kecskemet and hopes to get back on the winning track. An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Szekesfehervar. First ranked Alba faced 4th placed Szolnok. Host Alba (8-1) defeated guests from Szolnok (5-3) 85-79. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Szolnok. Justin Edwards stepped up and scored 23 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Alba’s coach Branislav Dzunic used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was David Vojvoda with 20 points and 7 assists. Alba have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place with 8-1 record. Defending champion Szolnok keeps the fourth position with three games lost. They share it with ZTE KK and PVSK Pannon. Alba will meet Szedeak (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Szolnok will play against Vasas and hope to secure a win. We should mention about the upset which took place in Paks, where higher ranked Szedeak (4-3) lost to eleventh ranked Atomeromu (3-6) in a road game 72-79. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Szedeak. P.J. Hill Jr. nailed 19 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) for the winning side. Atomeromu maintains eleventh place with 3-6 record. Szedeak at the other side keeps the seventh position with three games lost. Atomeromu’s next round opponent will be league’s second-placed Kormend on the road and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Other games of round 9 were very predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are: MAFC were defeated by KTE-Duna in Kecskemet 77-69. ZTE KK beat Falco KC at home 90-82. Sopron KC lost to PVSK Pannon on the opponent’s court 77-92. Kaposvari managed to outperform Vasas in a home game 94-82. KTE-Duna – MAFC 77-69The game between closely ranked teams ended with 13th ranked MAFC’s (1-8) road loss to twelfth ranked KTE-Duna (2-4) 69-77. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 22-11. But MAFC won third quarter 22-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. KTE-Duna dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to MAFC’s 30. KTE-Duna forced 19 MAFC turnovers and outrebounded them 37-23 including 26 on the defensive glass. 26 personal fouls committed by MAFC helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Serbian swingman Marko Djerasimovic (198-84, agency: BeoExcell) nailed 22 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side and Montenegrin point guard Milutin Djukanovic (190-91) accounted for 21 points and 6 assists. Four KTE-Duna players scored in double figures. Indian-Canadian forward Robbie Sihota (201-87) came up with 20 points and point guard Laszlo Polyak (191-93) added 12 points respectively for MAFC in the defeat. KTE-Duna maintains twelfth place with 2-4 record. MAFC lost their fourth game in a row. They dropped to the bottom position with eight games lost. KTE-Duna’s next round opponent will be league’s second-placed Kormend at home and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. MAFC will play against ZTE KK (#4) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
