AndreStringer Bottom-ranked Tampereen Pyrinto managed to get a fifth victory, breaking the series of five consecutive losses on Friday night. This time they edged fourth-ranked BC Nokia 83-81. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 4-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 83-81. 30 personal fouls committed by BC Nokia helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for American point guard Andre Stringer (178-91, college: LSU, agency: Interperformances) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. His fellow American import forward J’Nathan Bullock (196-87, college: Cleveland St.) helped adding 23 points and 6 rebounds. The best for the losing side was forward Eldar Skamo (198-86) with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists. Tampereen Pyrinto (5-10) moved-up to ninth place. BC Nokia at the other side dropped to the fifth position with eight games lost. They share it with Kauhajoki. Tampereen Pyrinto are looking forward to face higher ranked KTP-Basket (#8) in Kotka in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. BC Nokia will play on the road against Kauhajoen Karhu in Kauhajoki and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Korisliiga top team – Helsinki Seagulls (12-1) added another victory to their record. This time they beat seventh ranked Kouvot (5-8) in Kouvola 89-82. It was a quality performance for the former international Carl Lindbom (206-91) who led the winners and scored 21 points and 6 rebounds. Antto Nikkarinen accounted for 17 points and 7 assists. Helsinki Seagulls’ coach Mikko Larkas allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American guard Steven Pledger (193-90, college: Oklahoma) came up with 29 points and 7 rebounds for Kouvot in the defeat. Helsinki Seagulls maintains first place with 12-1 record. Defending champion Kouvot keeps the seventh position with eight games lost. Helsinki Seagulls will play against Lapuan Korikobrat (#4) on the road in the next round. Kouvot will play against UU-Korihait in Uusikaupunki and hopes to get back on the winning track. The game in Lapua was also quite interesting. 4th placed Kauhajoen Karhu (6-8) played at the court of sixth ranked Lapuan Korikobrat (6-7). Lapuan Korikobrat defeated Kauhajoen Karhu 83-68 on Saturday. The best player for the winners was Jamal Jones who scored 28 points. At the other side the best for losing team was Kammeon Holsey who recorded 15 points and 6 rebounds. Lapuan Korikobrat moved-up to fourth place. Kauhajoen Karhu lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth position with eight games lost. They share it with BC Nokia. Lapuan Korikobrat will meet at home league’s leader Helsinki Seagulls in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Kauhajoen Karhu will play against BC Nokia (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals. In the last game of round 15 Korihait lost to KTP Basket on the opponent’s court 67-81. Kouvot – Helsinki Seagulls 82-89Korisliiga top team – Helsinki Seagulls (12-1) added another victory to their record. This time they beat seventh ranked Kouvot (5-8) in Kouvola 89-82. It looked good early as Kouvot took a 3-point small lead at the end of first quarter.
