Cardinals part with Garcia, land 3 Braves prospects

ST. LOUIS — Jaime Garcia’s injury-plagued tenure with the Cardinals has come to an end, as St. Louis dealt the lefty starter to the Braves on Thursday for a trio of young players. In return, the Cardinals landed right-handers John Gant and Chris Ellis and second baseman Luke Dykstra. Only Gant has previous Major League experience.
When the Cardinals exercised Garcia’s $12 million club option after the season, it was with the intention of exploring possible trade partners. Instead of letting Garcia walk as a free agent, the Cardinals hoped to net something in return.
