Romania – Liga Nationala Round 10: CSU Sibiu beats BC Timisoara by three after a very close game

Kevin Hardy The most exciting game of round 10 in the Liga Nationala took place in Sibiu. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 6th ranked BC Timisoara (5-5) to fourth ranked CSU Sibiu (6-3) 80-77 on Friday evening. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But BC Timisoara won third quarter 25-24. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Kevin Hardy (188-93, college: McNeese St.) who helped to win the game recording 16 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. The other American import guard Marcel Davis (188-94, college: Utah Valley) contributed with 21 points and 4 assists for the winners. Serbian guard Nikola Otasevic (184-82, agency: BeoBasket) replied with 17 points and 5 assists for BC Timisoara. CSU Sibiu have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Oradea. BC Timisoara at the other side keeps the sixth position with five games lost. CSU Sibiu is looking forward to face bottom-ranked Olimpic (#11) in Baia Mare in the next round and are hoping to win another game. BC Timisoara will have a break next round. An interesting game for UBT Cluj Napoca (8-1) which hosted in Cluj Napoca 3rd ranked Oradea (6-3). First ranked UBT Cluj Napoca managed to get a 14-point victory 86-72. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Oradea. American Kyndall Dykes (192-87, college: New Orleans) scored 18 points and 7 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Filip Adamovic chipped in 18 points and 6 assists during the contest. At the losing side American guard Martin Zeno (196-85, college: Texas Tech) responded with 23 points and 4 assists. Oradea’s coach Cristian Achim rotated ten players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. UBT Cluj Napoca have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 8-1 record, which they share with Steaua CSM. Defending champion Oradea keeps the third place with three games lost. They share the position with CSU Sibiu. UBT Cluj Napoca will play against CS Dinamo Bucuresti (#9) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Oradea will play against Phoenix Galati (#10) and hopes to get back on the winning track. The game in Pitesti was also quite interesting. Second ranked Steaua CSM (8-1) played at the court of 5th ranked Pitesti (5-4). Steaua CSM managed to secure a 9-point victory 77-68 on Monday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Pitesti. Nikola Malesevic notched 24 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals to lead the effort. Even a double-double of 18 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists by Myck Kabongo did not help to save the game for Pitesti. Steaua CSM have a solid three-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with UBT Cluj Napoca. Loser Pitesti keeps the fifth place with four games lost. Steaua CSM will meet at home Craiova (#8) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Pitesti will play against Targu Mures and it may be a tough game between close rivals. The game in Mures supposed to be also worth to mention about. 7th ranked Craiova (3-6) played at the court of eighth ranked Targu Mures (4-5). Targu Mures did not have too big problems ending evening with a very confident victory 82-65. Goran Martinic fired a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 assists for the winners. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Targu Mures moved-up to seventh place. Craiova lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth position with six games lost. Targu Mures’ next round opponent will be higher ranked Pitesti (#5) on the road and it may be quite challenging game. Craiova will play against the league’s second-placed Steaua CSM having rather not much hope for a victory.In the last two games of round 10 Phoenix Galati was beaten by Dinamo B. on the road 83-70. Bottom-ranked Olimpic lost to Phoenix Galati on its own court 71-81. Pitesti – Steaua CSM 68-77The game in Pitesti was also quite interesting. Second ranked Steaua CSM (8-1) played at the court of 5th ranked Pitesti (5-4). Steaua CSM managed to secure a 9-point victory 77-68 on Monday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Pitesti. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Pitesti won third quarter 22-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Steaua CSM forced 19 Pitesti turnovers.
