Czech Republic – 1Liga Round 9: Basket Kosice defeats Vysocina in the closest game of the week

DusanHlavacek 1Liga is at the halfway of the Regular Season and there are still another 9 rounds left. There was no lack of interesting games this round. The round ended with favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin.The most exciting game of round 9 in the 1Liga took place in Jihlava. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 8th ranked Vysocina (3-6) to seventh ranked Basket Kosice (4-4) 70-69 on Sunday evening. Power forward Dusan Hlavacek (197-77) stepped up and scored 14 points and 9 rebounds for the winners and forward Jan Kratochvil (199-82) chipped in 11 points and 10 rebounds. The best for the losing side was forward Ondrej Manak (198-86) with 26 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Basket Kosice moved-up to sixth place in Group A. Vysocina at the other side dropped to the ninth position with six games lost. They share it with GBA Sparta. Basket Kosice are looking forward to face league’s leader Sokol Hradec Kralove on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Vysocina will play against BK Loko Plzen (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Very important is a road loss of second ranked Nymburk B (6-3) against eighth ranked BK Loko Plzen (4-5) on Friday night. Visiting Nymburk B was crushed by BK Loko Plzen in Plzen 77-56. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Nymburk B. Point guard Vaclav Honomichl (186-92) nailed 25 points and 8 assists (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) for the winning side and Jaroslav Kovanda accounted for 15 points and 11 rebounds. Guard Theodor Dlugos (183-97) came up with 16 points for Nymburk B in the defeat. BK Loko Plzen moved-up to seventh place in Group A. Nymburk B at the other side keeps the second position with three games lost. BK Loko Plzen will play against Vysocina (#9) in Jihlava in the next round. Nymburk B will play at home against Sokol Prazky (#5) and hopes to get back on the winning track. Very important is a road loss of third ranked B&W Opava B (6-3) against tenth ranked Pardubice (2-7) on Friday night. Visiting B&W Opava B was crushed by Pardubice in Pardubice 91-67. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of B&W Opava B. The best player for the winners was Viktor Pulpan who scored 17 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was Tomas Micunek who recorded 17 points and 9 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Pardubice moved-up to eighth place in Group B. Loser B&W Opava B dropped to the second position with three games lost. They share it with Sokol Slapanice and Olomouc SK. Pardubice will meet at home higher ranked Olomouc Bbal (#5) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. B&W Opava B will play against Havirov and hope to secure a win. The game between Top Four teams took place in Hradec Kralove. First ranked host Sokol Hradec Kralove (8-1) defeated 3rd placed USK Praha B (5-4) 81-76. It was a good game for Ondrej Peterka who led his team to a victory with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Sokol Hradec Kralove have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place in Group A with 8-1 record. USK Praha B at the other side keeps the third position with four games lost. Sokol Hradec Kralove’s next round opponent will be Basket Kosice (#6) at home which should be theoretically an easy game. USK Praha B’s supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Praha to the arena GBA Sparta. The game between Top Four teams took place in Zlin. Leader host SKB Zlin (9-0) smashed second-best Sokol Slapanice (6-3) 88-61. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Sokol Slapanice. David Nehoda stepped up and scored 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. SKB Zlin’s coach felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the ninth consecutive win for SKB Zlin. They maintain first place in Group B with 9-0 record. Loser Sokol Slapanice keeps the second position with three games lost. SKB Zlin will face Olomouc SK (#4) in the next round. Sokol Slapanice will play against Novy Jicin in Novy Jicin and hope to win that game. There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 9: In Group A Slavoj Litom. lost to GBA Sparta on the opponent’s court 61-69. Sokol Pisek unfortunately lost to Sokol Prazky in a home game 88-89. In Group B Olomouc SK managed to beat Prostejov B on the road 76-75. Havirov was defeated by Ostrava on its own court 53-70. Novy Jicin was smashed by Olomouc Bbal in a road game 88-69.
