The round ended with change at the leadership position and favorites losing the games.Third defeat of league’s leader Antwerp Giants (7-3) against seventh ranked Kangoeroes (5-4) 83-78 was the most important game of the last round. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Wesley Channels (190-88, college: Austin Peay St.) who helped to win the game recording 17 points and 6 rebounds. Senegalese power forward Pape Badji (208-92) contributed with 15 points and 7 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners. American guard Jason Clark (188-90, college: Georgetown) replied with 28 points for Antwerp Giants. Antwerp Giants’ coach tried various players’ combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn’t help. Kangoeroes moved-up to fifth place. Antwerp Giants lost third consecutive game. They still keep top position with three games lost. They were joined at the leadership position by Oostende who have the same record. Antwerp Giants will play next round against Belfius Mons-Hainaut trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Kangoeroes will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Okapi Aalstar on the road. Very important is a road loss of third ranked Okapi Aalstar (6-4) against fourth ranked Basic-Fit Brussels (6-3) on Sunday night. Visiting Okapi Aalstar was defeated by Basic-Fit Brussels in a tough game in Brussels 81-88. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Okapi Aalstar. American power forward Brandon Ubel (209-91, college: Nebraska, agency: Pensack Sports) had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Domien Loubry chipped in 18 points and 9 assists during the contest. At the losing side Samoan-American power forward John Tofi (203-84, college: UTEP, agency: Pensack Sports) responded with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Basic-Fit Brussels moved-up to third place. Okapi Aalstar at the other side dropped to the fourth position with four games lost. Basic-Fit Brussels will play against Spirou Charleroi (#6) on the road in the next round. Okapi Aalstar will play against Kangoeroes and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Bottom-ranked Limburg United managed to get a second victory, breaking the seven-game losing streak on Saturday night. This time they won against eighth-ranked Leuven Bears 93-75. It’s especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 18-point difference suggests that Limburg United is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. Seth Tuttle notched 13 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists to lead the effort. Limburg United’s coach Brian Lynch used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 25 points, 7 assists and 4 steals by Codi Miller-McIntyre did not help to save the game for Leuven Bears. Limburg United maintains tenth position with 2-8 record. Leuven Bears lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with seven games lost. They share the position with Liege. Limburg United will meet at home higher ranked Liege Basket (#8) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Leuven Bears will play against the league’s leader Oostende having rather not much hope for a victory.The game in Jemappes was also worth to mention about. Second ranked Oostende (7-3) played at the court of 5th ranked Belfius Mons-Hainaut (5-5). Oostende defeated Belfius Mons-Hainaut 70-60. Rasko Katic fired 13 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Oostende have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Antwerp. Belfius Mons-Hainaut at the other side dropped to the sixth place with five games lost. Oostende’s next round opponent will be Leuven Bears (#9) at home and are hoping to win another game. Belfius Mons-Hainaut will play against the league’s second-placed Antwerp Giants and hope to win that game. The game in Liege was also quite interesting. Seventh ranked Spirou Charleroi (5-5) played at the court of 8th ranked Liege Basket (3-7). Spirou Charleroi defeated Liege Basket 103-92 on Friday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Liege Basket. It was a very good performance for Niels Marnegrave who helped to win the game recording 15 points and 8 rebounds.
