Belarus – Premier League Round 10: Grodno-93 defeats Vitebsk in the game between Top 4 teams

YuriMishukov An interesting game for Grodno-93 (8-0) which hosted in Grodno 4th ranked Vitebsk (4-6). Top-ranked Grodno-93 had an easy win 88-65. The game was mostly controlled by Grodno-93. Vitebsk managed to win third quarter 20-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Grodno-93 dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Vitebsk’s 26. They outrebounded Vitebsk 43-26 including a 33-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Grodno-93 looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Vitebsk’s players. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international center Yuri Mishukov (205-85) who helped to win the game recording 20 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Forward Andrei Navoichyk (200-91) contributed with 18 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. Grodno-93’s coach felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Russian center Marsel Ovsepyan (200-90) replied with 16 points and 9 rebounds for Vitebsk. Undefeated Grodno-93 have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with COR-Borisfen and Tsmoki II. Vitebsk at the other side dropped to the fifth place with six games lost. Grodno-93 is again looking forward to face Vitebsk (#5) at home in the next round. Vitebsk will have a break next round. Premier League top team – COR-Borisfen (8-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed sixth ranked BSEU-GrandPrint (2-6) in Minsk 108-74. German point guard Vytautas Kamarunas (178-89) scored 24 points and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Pavel Bliznets chipped in 18 points and 9 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) during the contest. At the losing side power forward Vitaliy Lebedev (200-99) responded with 22 points and 5 steals. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Undefeated COR-Borisfen have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 8-0 record, which they share with Grodno-93 and Tsmoki II. BSEU-GrandPrint lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with six games lost. COR-Borisfen will play against bottom-ranked GOCOR-Sozh (#9) in Gomel in the next round and are hoping to win another game. BSEU-GrandPrint will have a break next round. The game in Grodno was also quite interesting. Fifth ranked Impuls BGUIR (4-4) played at the court of 7th ranked Prinemanye (2-8). Impuls BGUIR managed to secure a 4-point victory 71-67 on Saturday. Kiril Volodkin notched 26 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals (made all of his eight free throws) to lead the effort. Even 25 points by Pavel Suvorov did not help to save the game for Prinemanye. Impuls BGUIR moved-up to fourth place. Prinemanye lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with eight games lost. Impuls BGUIR will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Prinemanye will play against Brest (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals. The game between top-ranked Tsmoki II (8-0) and 8th ranked GOCOR-Sozh (1-7) in Minsk ended with biggest points difference. Tsmoki II outscored guests from Gomel 90-50. Anton Zaretski fired 17 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Tsmoki II’s coach felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Undefeated Tsmoki II have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with COR-Borisfen and Grodno-93.
