AlexisKiritsis The game between Top Four teams took place in Athens. Third ranked host Doukas (7-1) defeated 4th ranked Faros (5-3) 74-67. Doukas made 29-of-35 free shots (82.9 percent) during the game, while Faros only scored twelve points from the stripe. They outrebounded Faros 39-24 including a 31-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. 30 personal fouls committed by Faros helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Alexis Kiritsis (198-82) who helped to win the game recording 24 points and 6 rebounds and forward Andreas Kanonidis (198-91) who added 19 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. point guard Nikos Liakopoulos (188-83) responded with 19 points and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Doukas have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Iraklis. Faros at the other side keeps the fourth position with three games lost. They share it with Ethnikos. A2 top team – Panionios (8-0) managed to deliver another win. This time they beat eleventh ranked Doxa Pefkon (3-5) in Athens 72-60. The winners were led by Bosnian-British center Fahro Alihodzic (208-89, college: UAB) who scored that evening 23 points and 6 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) and Nikos Barlos supported him with 10 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Panionios’ coach Nikos Ekonomou allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 9 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists by Norwegian forward Karamo Jawara (203-91, college: N.C.Central) did not help to save the game for Doxa Pefkon. Undefeated Panionios have an impressive eight-game winning streak. Newly promoted Panionios maintains first position with 8-0 record. Doxa Pefkon at the other side dropped to the tenth place with five games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Panionios will play against Aiolos Astakou (#7) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Doxa Pefkon will play against Psyhiko and it may be a tough game between close rivals. A very close game took place in Athens between Psyhiko and AE Larissas. Ninth ranked Psyhiko (4-4) got a very close home victory over 7th ranked AE Larissas (4-4). Psyhiko managed to escape with a 1-point win 78-77 in the fight for the sixth place. The best player for the winners was Nikolaos Papanikolaou who had a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds. Giannis Papachristos produced 13 points and 9 rebounds for the guests. Psyhiko moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated AE Larissas. AE Larissas lost fourth consecutive game. Psyhiko will meet Doxa Pefkon (#13) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. AE Larissas will play against Pagrati (#16) and hope to secure a win. Fifth ranked Ethnikos (5-3) crushed at home 6th ranked Aiolos Astakou (4-4) by 18 points 78-60, which is the biggest margin this round. Anastasios Antonakis orchestrated the victory by scoring 21 points and 7 rebounds. Aiolos Astakou’s coach Michael Koutalianos rotated eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Ethnikos moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Faros. Newly promoted Aiolos Astakou keeps the sixth position with four games lost. Ethnikos’ next round opponent will be Faros (#5) in Keratsiniou. Aiolos Astakou will play at home against the league’s leader Panionios and hope to win that game. There were no shocking results in the other games in round 8: Kavala lost to Irakleio on the opponent’s court 76-81. Arkadikos managed to outperform Holargos in a home game 63-58. Amyntas Dafnis managed to beat GS Larissas on the road 57-47. Pagrati was defeated by Iraklis on its own court 64-74. The most impressive stats of the last round was 13 points and 8 rebounds by Savvas Tsougarakis of Arkadikos.Irakleio – Kavala 81-76Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both thirteenth ranked Irakleio and 12th ranked Kavala had identical 2-5 record. This time Irakleio used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Kavala 81-76. Irakleio made 19-of-22 charity shots (86.4 percent) during the game. 24 personal fouls committed by Kavala helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Guard Themis Koupidis (198-84) orchestrated the victory by scoring 25 points and 5 assists. Forward Ioannis Lianos (202-85) contributed with 17 points and 8 rebounds for the winners.
