Goldberg, Engel likely to be added to 40-man

CHICAGO — It has been quite a year for Brad Goldberg.
The 10th-round selection in the 2013 Draft posted a 2.70 ERA with 10 saves for the White Sox Triple-A affiliate in Charlotte and Double-A club in Birmingham in ’16, finding a self-described comfortable fit within the organization. Goldberg, 26, also tallied two saves for Team Israel, helping achieve its first qualification for the ’17 World Baseball Classic.
But Friday marks the next important step for Goldberg. He needs to be added to Chicago’s 40-man roster to protect him from the Rule 5 Draft, which takes place on Dec. 8 during the final day of the Winter Meetings. All eligible players are anyone not on the 40-man roster who signed in 2012 at 18 years or younger, or in ’13 at 19 years or older.
Six of the White Sox Top 30 Prospects, per MLBPipeline.com, are on this list. They are outfielder Adam Engel (No. 6), lefty Jordan Guerrero (10), outfielder Jacob May (12), outfielder Courtney Hawkins (14), righty Luis Martinez (25) and first baseman/outfielder Nicky Delmonico (27).
