Czech Republic – 1Liga Round 5: Nymburk B hands first loss to USK Praha B

The round ended with defeat of the leader, favorites losing the games and even winless team recording their first victory.The most surprising game was the first loss of USK Praha B (4-1) at the home court on Friday night. Hosts were rolled over by fifth ranked Nymburk B (3-2) 88-66. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of USK Praha B. It was a great shooting night for Nymburk B especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 69.2 percentage. Forward Matej Svoboda (200-96) orchestrated the victory by scoring 33 points (!!!) (on 14-of-17 shooting from the field). International center Martin Peterka (205-95) contributed with 15 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Nymburk B’s coach felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Swingman Jan Streba (195-95) answered with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds for USK Praha B. Nymburk B moved-up to fourth place in Group A. USK Praha B at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. They share it with Slavoj Litom. and Sokol H.K.. Nymburk B are looking forward to face GBA Sparta (#8) in Praha in the next round. USK Praha B will play at home against Basket Kosice (#9) and is hoping to win this game. Very important is a home loss of third ranked Olomouc Bbal (3-2) against sixth ranked Sokol Slapanice (3-2) on Sunday night. Host Olomouc Bbal was defeated by Sokol Slapanice in Olomouc 82-65. Forward Jan Rotrekl (196-85) stepped up and scored 25 points and 4 steals for the winners and Martin Vyroubal chipped in 18 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Moldova forward Evgeni Scripcaru (195-83) responded with 22 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Sokol Slapanice moved-up to second place in Group B, which they share with 4 other teams including defeated Olomouc Bbal. Sokol Slapanice will play against Pardubice (#9) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Olomouc Bbal will play against Olomouc SK (#7) and hopes to get back on the winning track. Very important is a road loss of second ranked Novy Jicin (3-2) against fifth ranked Ostrava (3-2) on Sunday night. Visiting Novy Jicin was defeated by Ostrava in a tough game in Ostrava 68-73. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Novy Jicin. Jan Lycka nailed 18 points for the winning side. Rostislav Pelikan came up with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds for Novy Jicin in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Ostrava moved-up to second place in Group B, which they share with 4 other teams including defeated Novy Jicin. Ostrava will meet at home B&W Opava B (#4) in the next round. Novy Jicin will play against BK Prostejov B and hope to secure a win. Havirov’s fans can celebrate the first win of their team after four consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat BK Prostejov B (1-4) 78-69. The best player for the winners was Jan Kolonicny who had a double-double by scoring 12 points and 18 rebounds. Havirov left bottom position moving up to eighth place in Group B, which they share with Pardubice and Prostejov B. Havirov’s next round opponent will be league’s leader SKB Zlin on the road and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. 1Liga top team – SKB Zlin (5-0) had no problems winning another game on Friday. This time they crushed ninth ranked Pardubice (1-4) 93-61. Marian Hrabovsky orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points and 8 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Undefeated SKB Zlin have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place in Group B with 5-0 record. Loser Pardubice dropped to the eighth position with four games lost. SKB Zlin will face Havirov (#8) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Pardubice will play against the league’s second-placed Sokol Slapanice in Slapnice and hope to win that game. There were no big surprises in other games of round 5: In Group A GBA Sparta was smashed by Sokol H.K. on the road 95-73. Vysocina won against Sokol Pisek on its own court 78-71. Sokol Prazky managed to outperform Loko Plzen in Praha 62-53. Basket Kosice recorded a loss to Slavoj Litom. at home 56-74. In Group B Olomouc SK was crushed by Opava B on the opponent’s court 101-64. Group ASokol H.K. – GBA Sparta 95-73No shocking result in a game when third ranked Sokol Hradec Kralove (4-1) crushed at home 5th ranked GBA Sparta (2-3) 95-73 on Sunday. Sokol Hradec Kralove shot 60.7 percent from the field. Sokol Hradec Kralove outrebounded GBA Sparta 29-14 including a 17-6 advantage in defensive rebounds. Slovakian center Peter Majerik (207-85) orchestrated the victory by scoring 17 points and 6 rebounds. Forward Ondrej Peterka (198-91, agency: Octagon Europe) contributed with 10 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Four Sokol Hradec Kralove players scored in double figures. Forward Michal Kozak (202-98) answered with 22 points and Latvia forward Verners Kohs (203-97) added 25 points in the effort for GBA Sparta.
