RaimondsPabrieza LBL2 Regular Season is still in too early stage and there may be still significant changes in the standings. There was no lack of excitement in the last round games. The round ended with derby games and games ending by tiny margin.The most exciting game of round 4 in the LBL2 took place in Ogre. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of one of their biggest challengers Livani (2-2) to second ranked Ogre/Kumho Tyre (4-1) 65-63 in the game for the second place. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Raimonds Pabrieza (189-88) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 7 assists and Davids Atelbauers (180-99) who added 13 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Ogre/Kumho Tyre’s coach Peteris Ozolins used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side guard Daumants Pabrieza (183-87) responded with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Ogre/Kumho Tyre have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 4-1 record having just three points less than leader Kekava. Livani at the other side keeps the third place with two games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Ogre/Kumho Tyre are looking forward to face Jekabpils II (#5) at home in the next round. Livani will play against BJBS Riga and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win. Important game to mention about took place in Riga. Fifth ranked Jekabpils II (2-3) saved a 3-point victory on the road edging bottom-ranked BJBS Riga (0-5) 79-76 on Saturday evening. The winners were led by swingman Edijs Stiebrins (190-96) who scored that evening 21 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and Matiss Surkulis supported him with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Jekabpils II’s coach Andris Cerjaks used entire bench in such tough game. Even 15 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals by guard Aivars Dambis (183-0) did not help to save the game for BJBS Riga. Jekabpils II moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Saldus. BJBS Riga at the other side still closes the standings with five games lost. They share the position with Madona and VEF skola. Jekabpils II will play against league’s second-placed Ogre/Kumho Tyre on the road in the next round and it may be the game of the week. BJBS Riga will play against Livani (#3) and hopes to get finally their first victory.Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Riga: Buki/BJSS (#4) and LU/BS Riga (#3). LU/BS Riga was defeated at home 60-64 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of LU/BS Riga. Roberts Mednis fired a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Buki/BJSS’s coach Arturs Brunins allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Roberts Dembskis produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds for lost side. Buki/BJSS have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place which they share with defeated LU/BS Riga. Loser LU/BS Riga keeps the third position with two games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Buki/BJSS will meet at home Madona (#7) in the next round. LU/BS Riga’s supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Riga to the arena RSU. The game between Top Four teams took place in Riga. 3rd ranked host Marupe (2-2) lost to top-ranked Turiba (6-0) 87-77. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Marupe. It was a very good performance for Elvis Endzels who helped to win the game recording 17 points and 8 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Undefeated Turiba have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 6-0 record. Marupe at the other side keeps the third place with two games lost. Turiba will have a break next round. Marupe will play against Valmiera/ORDO-2 and hope to win that game. The game between Top Four teams took place in Saldus. 4th ranked host Saldus (2-3) lost to top-ranked Limbazi (5-0) 77-68. Worth to mention a great performance of Armands Osins who helped to win the game recording 16 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. Undefeated Limbazi have an impressive five-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Kekava. Loser Saldus keep the fourth place with three games lost. Limbazi will face Jelgava (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Saldus will play against Ventspils Augstskola and it may be a tough game between close rivals. There were no shocking results in the other games in round 4: Limbazi won against VeA on the opponent’s court 88-82. RTU outscored Madona in a home game 103-51. Kekava managed to beat Jelgava on the road 92-79. Winless Riga/Ridzene was crushed by Saldus on its own court 74-99. Buki/BJSS smashed Madona in Riga 79-56. Jekabpils II lost to Valmiera/ORDO-2 at home 81-92. Jelgava managed to outperform VEF skola on the opponent’s court 99-92. The most impressive stats of the last round was 17 points and 4 assists by Arnis Ate of Turiba.Marupe – Turiba 77-87The game between Top Four teams took place in Riga. 3rd ranked host Marupe (2-2) lost to top-ranked Turiba (6-0) 87-77. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Marupe. The guests were ahead by 2 points but lost the second period ending it with a 2-point deficit before their 33-21 run, which allowed them to win the game. Turiba had a 31-20 advantage in offensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three nailing 13 long-distance shots on high 56.5 percentage. Turiba players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. It was a very good performance for point guard Elvis Endzels (188-94) who helped to win the game recording 17 points and 8 assists. Swingman Davids Muiznieks (196-94) contributed with 20 points and 4 assists for the winners. Guard Karlis Vecens (185-95) replied with 14 points and 7 assists and guard Roberts Paze (193-95) added 13 points and 4 steals in the effort for Marupe. Four Marupe players scored in double figures.
