Zinedine Zidane felt Real Madrid passed a test of character as they saw off Alaves 4-1 with the help of a Cristiano Ronaldo hat-trick.
Ronaldo also missed a penalty in an impressive personal return to form but the La Liga leaders Real did not have things all their own way at the Mendizorrotza Stadium.
Real needed to come from behind after Deyverson struck early for the hosts and it was not until the final six minutes, when Alvaro Morata struck and Ronaldo completed his treble, they could breathe easily.
