Denny Hamlin edged Austin Dillon in a tiebreaker at Talladega to stay alive in the Chase.
Hamlin’s third-place finish in Sunday’s Hellmann’s 500 at Talladega Superspeedway gave him the opportunity to move on to the Round of 8 that begins next week at Martinsville Speedway. Although Hamlin tied with Dillon in the standings, his Talladega finish – best among the two in the Round of 12 -gave him the tiebreaker to continue in the championship. “We needed some things to fall our way if we didn’t win the race,” Hamlin explained. “Today things fell our way.
