Several heavy hitters face elimination from the Chase in Sunday’s Hellmann’s 500 at Talladega Superspeedway.
Brad Keselowski, Chase Elliott and Denny Hamlin all find themselves well below the cutoff line and in danger of being knocked out of the championship when the checkered flag flies in Sunday’s final race of the Round of 12.
While it’s true anything can happen in restrictor-plate racing, especially at Talladega – a track that has built a reputation on the unexpected, the odds of any of the three scoring a walk-off win to stay alive are long.
Elliott is in the basement after his frustrating Kansas performance that ended with a cut tire taking away any chance to compete for a good finish. The rookie is 25 points out of the safe zone and a win most likely is Elliott’s only option at Talladega.
