A 3-1 win over Burnley was enough to see Southampton move up to eighth in the Premier League on Sunday, while Watford worked their way to a hard-fought 1-0 victory in their trip to face Middlesbrough.

Saints hosted the Clarets in Week 8 knowing a win would be enough to take them back into the Premier League’s top half, and Charlie Austin delivered with a brace against manager Sean Dyche’s side.

Nathan Redmond also got on the scoresheet with his second goal of the season, but Sam Vokes’ late penalty proved to be little more than a consolation for Burnley.

Earlier in the day, Jose Holebas bagged a sensational long-range winner at the Riverside Stadium in what was an otherwise drab performance between two teams lacking in offensive quality.
