France – NM1 Round 5 of Regular Season

Masse Doumbe There were just five rounds played in Regular Season of NM1 and we can clearly see which teams will fight for top positions and which will try to avoid bottom places. The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round. The round ended with change at the leadership position, favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin.First defeat of Quimper UJAP (4-1) against eleventh ranked GET Vosges (3-2) 81-71 was the most important game of the last round. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Quimper UJAP. GET Vosges shot 61.4 percent from the field. Forward Masse Doumbe (203-87, college: Kaiser) orchestrated the victory by scoring 18 points. American center Kyle Tresnak (208-92, college: Weber St.) contributed with 12 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners. Naturalized Cameroonian guard Ralph Temgoua (194-87, college: St.Lawrence) answered with 17 points for Quimper UJAP. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. GET Vosges moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 5 other teams. Quimper UJAP at the other side dropped to the second position with one game lost. They share it with Caen. They were replaced at the leadership position by Souffel. Quimper UJAP will play next round against Lourdes-Tarbes trying to make it back to the top of the standings. GET Vosges will try to continue on its current victory against seventeenth ranked Vendee Challans on the road. Very important is a road loss of third ranked Vitre (3-2) against tenth ranked Lorient (3-2) on Tuesday night. Visiting Vitre was defeated by Lorient in a tough game in Lorient 62-67. Lorient will play against Angers BC (#14) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Vitre will play against CFBB (#18) and hopes to get back on the winning track. Bottom-ranked CFBB is still unable to win any game. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their fifth consecutive match to sixth ranked Rueil (3-2) 119-62 on Tuesday evening. Jeremy Bichard nailed 15 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists for the winning side. Ivan Fevrier came up with 15 points and 9 rebounds for CFBB in the defeat. Rueil moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 5 other teams. Loser CFBB still closes the standings with five games lost. Rueil will meet at home Gries/Oberhoffen (#12) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. CFBB will play against Vitre (#8) and hopes to get finally their first victory.The game in Saint Vallier was also worth to mention about. Leader Souffelweyersheim (5-0) played at the court of 5th ranked Saint Vallier (3-2). Souffelweyersheim defeated Saint Vallier 78-63. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Saint Vallier. The best player for the winners was Elson Mendy who had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds. Saint Vallier’s coach rotated ten players and allowed the starting five to rest. Undefeated Souffelweyersheim have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. Saint Vallier at the other side dropped to the fourth place with two games lost. Souffelweyersheim’s next round opponent will be Union Rennes (#9) at home and are hoping to win another game. Saint Vallier will play against the league’s second-placed Caen (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Important game to mention about took place in Bischwiller. Sixteenth ranked Gries/Oberhoffen (2-3) saved a 2-point victory at home edging 15th ranked Vendee Challans (1-4) 63-61 on Tuesday evening. Julian Scott orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds. Gries/Oberhoffen moved-up to tenth place, which they share with 5 other teams. Loser Vendee Challans dropped to the sixteenth position with four games lost. Gries/Oberhoffen will face higher ranked Rueil (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Orchies was destroyed by Angers BC on its own court 58-87. Lourdes unfortunately lost to Chartres in a road game 84-91. Rennes rolled over ALS Basket at home 97-53. Lorient – Vitre 67-62Very important is a road loss of third ranked Vitre (3-2) against tenth ranked Lorient (3-2) on Tuesday night. Visiting Vitre was defeated by Lorient in a tough game in Lorient 62-67. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 20-10. But Vitre won second period 13-10. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Lorient won last quarter 22-19.
