Serbia – KLS Round 1: Napredak Rubin loses to OKK Beograd

BranislavDjekic The Regular Season in KLS just started. The round was rather attractive and full of interesting results. The round ended with loss of the undefeated team and games ending by tiny margin.The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Napredak Rubin (0-1) on the court of OKK Beograd on Monday night. Visitors were defeated by OKK Beograd 73-61. The game without a history. OKK Beograd led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Napredak Rubin helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Power forward Branislav Djekic (209-91, agency: Interperformances) fired 24 points and 7 rebounds (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. Jamaica center Kimani Ffriend (211-77, college: Nebraska) chipped in 14 points and 13 rebounds. American point guard Jawan Davis (184-89, college: Claflin) produced 20 points for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. OKK Beograd is looking forward to face Sloga (#12) in Kraljevo in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Napredak Rubin will play on the road against Mladost ZE (#10) in Zemun and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Another exciting game was played in Nis between Beovuk 72 and Konstantin where Beovuk 72 (1-0) beat Konstantin (0-1) on the road 89-83. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Stefan Fundic (199-94) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 23 points and 16 rebounds. Nemanja Vucicevic contributed with 15 points and 4 assists for the winners. Swingman Nemanja Gudzic (195-90) answered with 21 points and 5 rebounds for Konstantin. Konstantin’s coach Predrag Jacimovic rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn’t help. Beovuk 72 will play against Borac in Cacak in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Konstantin will play on the road against Metalac (#9) in Valjevo and it may be a tough game between close rivals. An exciting game was played in Subotica. Spartak faced Sloga. Host Spartak (1-0) smashed guests from Kraljevo (0-1) 87-62. Svetozar Popovic stepped up and scored 21 points and 5 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winners. Spartak’s coach felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side Stefan Matovic responded with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Spartak will meet Smederevo (#13) on the road in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Sloga will play against OKK Beograd (#5) and hope to win that game. An exciting game was played in Stari Banovci. Dunav SB faced Vrsac. Host Dunav SB (1-0) defeated guests from Vrsac (0-1) 89-73. Lazar Zorcic nailed 15 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Dunav SB’s next round opponent will be Tamis (#7) in Pancevo which should be theoretically an easy game. Vrsac will play at home against Dynamic BG (#4) and hope to win that game. An exciting game was played in Pancevo. Tamis faced Mladost ZE. Host Tamis (1-0) edged guests from Zemun (0-1) 68-67. Igor Kesar fired 22 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Tamis will face Dunav SB (#3) in Stari Banovci in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Mladost ZE will play at home against Napredak Rubin (#11) and hope to win that game. In the last two games of round 1 Smederevo lost to Borac in Cacak 71-75. Dynamic BG smashed Metalac at home 104-83.
