Holland – Eredivisie Round 1: Amsterdam loses to Zwolle

J.T. Yoho The Regular Season in Eredivisie just started. The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Amsterdam (0-1) on the court of Zwolle on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by Zwolle 89-76. The game was mostly controlled by Zwolle. Amsterdam managed to win third quarter 29-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Zwolle shot 62.5 percent from the field. Zwolle outrebounded Amsterdam 28-15 including 19 on the defensive glass. American forward J.T. Yoho (198-93, college: Wright St., agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) stepped up and scored 32 points (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) for the winners and his fellow American import guard J.T. Tiller (188-88, college: Missouri) chipped in 16 points. At the losing side the former international point guard Aaron Roye (184-88) responded with 25 points. Zwolle is looking forward to face Leeuwarden at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Amsterdam will play against Groningen and is hoping to win this game. Very significant was Leiden’s 20-point road victory against Rotterdam 74-54. Power forward Floris Versteegh (206-94, college: CS Fullerton, agency: Court Side) nailed 21 points and 8 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winning side and Mohamed Kherrazi accounted for 10 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Center Lucas Steijn (211-86, college: Idaho St.) came up with 8 points and 15 rebounds for Rotterdam in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Leiden will play against Weert (#8) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Rotterdam will play against Dukes UDB and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Quite upsetting was Dukes UDB’s 21-point home defeat in a game versus Groningen who smashed hosts Lance Jeter fired 19 points and 5 assists for the winners. Ralf Pagter Ralf produced 11 points and 9 rebounds for lost side. Groningen will meet Amsterdam (#5) on the road in the next round. Dukes UDB will play against Rotterdam and it may be a tough game between close rivals. The game between Top Four teams took place in Leeuwarden. host Leeuwarden (1-0) edged Weert (0-1) 100-99. Worth to mention a great performance of Jordan Gregory who helped to win the game recording 39 points (!!!) and 4 steals. Leeuwarden’s next round opponent will be Zwolle (#4) on the road.
