Poland – 1Liga Round 3: SKK Sieldce overcome Biofarm PZN

MarcinPlawucki This is still too early stage of the Regular Season in 1Liga and we should expect many changes in upcoming rounds. The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round. The round ended with change at the leadership position and favorites losing the games.First defeat of Biofarm PZN (2-1) against SKK Siedlce (2-1) 84-77 was the most important game of the last round. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Biofarm PZN won fourth quarter 24-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. SKK Siedlce made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 Biofarm PZN turnovers. It was a good game for point guard Marcin Plawucki (177-89, agency: Promotex) who led his team to a victory with 17 points and 9 assists. Forward Rafal Krol (200-87) contributed with 19 points for the winners. Forward Filip Struski (200-94) answered with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds for Biofarm PZN. Biofarm PZN’s coach Przemyslaw Szurek rotated ten players in this game, but that didn’t help. Biofarm PZN will play next round against strong Spojnia trying to make it back to the top of the standings. SKK Siedlce will try to continue on its current victory against Astoria Bydg. in Bydgoszcz. Sokol Lancut defeated GKS Tychy at home 79-74. It was a great evening for Alan Czujkowski (198-90, agency: Promotex) who led his team to a victory scoring 18 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Maciej Klima helped adding 18 points and 10 rebounds. The best for the losing side was swingman Hubert Mazur (190-84, agency: Promotex) with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. GKS Tychy will play next round against Pogon Prudnik trying to get back on the winning streak. Sokol Lancut will try to continue on its current victory against Nysa Klodzko at Kloszko. Polonia Leszno (2-1) recorded a loss in Warszawa on Sunday night. Visitors were rolled over by Legia W-wa (2-1) 80-58. It was an exceptional evening for Lukasz Wilczek who led the winners and scored 4 points, 8 rebounds and 11 assists. Nikodem Sirijatowicz came up with 8 points and 6 assists for Polonia Leszno in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Legia W-wa will meet at home Notec Inowr. (#7) in the next round. Polonia Leszno will play against Znicz Basket (#12) and hope to secure a win. Very important is a home loss of Pogon Prudnik (2-1) against GTK Gliwice (2-1) on Saturday night. Host Pogon Prudnik was edged by GTK Gliwice in a tough game in Prudnik 71-74. The best player for the winners was Pawel Zmarlak who had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds. GTK Gliwice’s coach Pawel Turkiewicz allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. GTK Gliwice’s next round opponent will be Rosa II Radom (#16) at home which should be an easy win for them. Pogon Prudnik will play against GKS Tychy (#14) and hope to win that game. The game between Notec Inowr. (2-1) and Astoria Bydg. (0-3) in Inowroclaw on Saturday ended with biggest points difference. Notec Inowr. outscored guests from Bydgoszcz 89-62. It was a good game for Marcin Kowalewski who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Notec Inowr. will face Legia W-wa (#3) in Warszawa in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Astoria Bydg. will play on the road against SKK Siedlce (#5) and hopes to get finally their first victory.There were no big surprises in other games of round 3: Znicz Basket beat Rosa II Radom on the road 67-57. Kotwica destroyed Nysa Klodzko on its own court 75-54. AZS AGH Krk. lost to undefeated Spojnia in Stargard 63-76. The most impressive performance of 3rd round was 15 points by Tomasz Madziar of Znicz Basket.Rosa II Radom – Znicz Basket 57-67Rosa II Radom was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Pruszkow 67-57 on Sunday night. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. It was a good game for swingman Damian Tokarski (193-88) who led his team to a victory with 15 points and 5 rebounds. Mikolaj Stopierzynski (190-94) contributed with 12 points and 7 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners. Four Znicz Basket players scored in double figures. Filip Zegzula (188-94) answered with 14 points and 5 rebounds and center Michal Sadlo (205-94) added 8 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Rosa II Radom. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Znicz Basket will face Polonia Leszno (#10) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Rosa II Radom will play against GTK Gliwice (#4) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
