Czech Republic – NBL Round 5: BK Pardubice edges BK Usti nad Labem by three points

Joseph Wall Coincidentally all hosts won their games. The most exciting game of round 5 in the NBL took place in Pardubice. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 7th ranked BK Usti nad Labem (2-3) to second ranked BK Pardubice (4-1) 93-90 on Saturday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. BK Pardubice forced 22 BK Usti nad Labem turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Joseph Wall (199-89, college: Seattle Pacific) who scored 17 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international forward Radek Necas (206-80) chipped in 13 points and 12 rebounds. American swingman Khristian Smith (198-91, college: Indiana St.) produced 27 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the guests. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. BK Pardubice maintains second place with 4-1 record behind leader CEZ Nymburk, which they share with BK Opava and Prostejov. BK Usti nad Labem at the other side dropped to the sixth position with three games lost. They share it with USK Praha and Svitavy. BK Pardubice is looking forward to face bottom-ranked NH Ostrava (#12) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. BK Usti nad Labem will play against the league’s leader CEZ Nymburk (#1) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win. Important game to mention about took place in Opava. Fourth ranked BK Opava (4-1) saved a 1-point victory at home edging 6th ranked USK Praha (2-3) 72-71 on Saturday evening. Center Martin Gniadek (203-90) saved the victory by scoring 14 points. Radovan Kouril contributed with 15 points for the winners. BK Opava’s coach Petr Czudek allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. International swingman Jaromir Bohacik (197-92, agency: Octagon Europe) answered with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for USK Praha. BK Opava have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with BK Pardubice and Prostejov. USK Praha at the other side keeps the sixth position with three games lost. They share it with Usti n/Labem and Svitavy. BK Opava will play against BK Decin (#5) on the road in the next round. USK Praha will play against Basketbal Svitavy and it may be a tough game between close rivals. An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Nymburk. Leader CEZ Nymburk faced 3rd placed BK Decin. Host CEZ Nymburk (5-0) smashed guests from Decin (3-2) 88-39. Howard Sant-Roos stepped up with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Pavel Houska responded with 8 points and 9 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Undefeated CEZ Nymburk have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 5-0 record. Loser BK Decin dropped to the fifth position with two games lost. CEZ Nymburk will meet at home BK Usti nad Labem (#6) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. BK Decin will play against BK Opava and it may be a tough game between close rivals. BK Kolin can celebrate their first win this season after four consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat NH Ostrava (1-4) 99-89. The game was dominated by American players. Garret Kerr nailed a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. BK Kolin left bottom position moving up to ninth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated NH Ostrava. It was NH Ostrava’s third loss in a row. BK Kolin’s next round opponent will be MMCITE Brno (#9) on the road. NH Ostrava will play against the league’s second-placed BK Pardubice and will have a slim chance for a victory.In the last two games of round 5 MMCITE Brno was crushed by Prostejov in a road game 112-68. Svitavy beat J.Hradec at home 74-61. The best stats of 5th round was 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists by Lamb Autrey of BK Pardubice.BK Kolin – NH Ostrava 99-89BK Kolin can celebrate their first win this season after four consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat NH Ostrava (1-4) 99-89. BK Kolin shot 60.3 percent from the field. They shot the lights out from three nailing 13 long-distance shots on high 54.2 percentage. BK Kolin players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists. The game was dominated by American players. Forward Garret Kerr (194-92, college: Univ.Sciences) nailed a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and forward Lee Skinner (198-92, college: Wofford) accounted for 19 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field).
