Gabon, Morocco in Franceville stalemate

A determined performance from Morocco was enough to hold Gabon to a barren draw in their Group C opener on Sunday in Franceville. The visitors survived several onslaughts from their host thanks to their resolute backline and the agility of goalkeeper El Kajoui Monir. The first half was characterised by midfield action from both sides with little to count as far as chances at goal was concerned. The Panthers forced the Atlas Lions into their half in the opening minutes and Aaron Ondele saw his header from a Merlin Tandjigora cross go wide on 16 minutes.
