Ukraine – Superleague Round 3: Dnipro defeats leader Kremen

StanislavTymofeyenko There were just three rounds played in Regular Season of Superleague and we can clearly see which teams will fight for top positions and which will try to avoid bottom places. The most surprising game was a loss of Kremen (1-1) in Kremenchuk on Friday night. Hosts were rolled over by Dnipro (2-1) 93-68. The game was mostly controlled by Dnipro. Kremen managed to win third quarter 24-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Dnipro forced 21 Kremen turnovers. It was a good game for international forward Stanislav Tymofeyenko (202-89, agency: Octagon Europe) who led his team to a victory with 22 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). point guard Maksym Zakurdaev (193-93) contributed with 14 points for the winners. Center Oleksandr Tishenko (206-89) answered with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 17 rebounds for Kremen. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Dnipro is looking forward to face Avantazh-Polit. (#10) in Kharkiv in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Kremen will play at home against Zaporizhya (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals. An interesting game for Khimik (3-0) which hosted in Yuzhny Kryvbas (1-2). Khimik managed to get a 14-point victory 76-62. It was a great evening for American point guard Jaime Smith (190-89, college: Al.-Huntsville) who led his team to a victory scoring 25 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Viacheslav Petrov helped adding 15 points and 7 rebounds. The best for the losing side was the former international guard Sergei Popov (196-88, agency: BeoBasket) with 15 points and 4 steals (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Khimik will play against Mykolaiv (#5) in Mykolaiv in the next round. Kryvbas will play on the road against Bipa Basket in Odessa to get more than just one victory in their record. A very close game took place in Odessa between Mykolaiv and Bipa Basket. Mykolaiv (2-1) got a very close victory on the road over Bipa Basket (0-3). Mykolaiv managed to escape with a 1-point win 76-75 on Friday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. It was an exceptional evening for Olexiy Onufriyev who led the winners and scored 19 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Kenney Funderburk came up with 12 points, 6 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals for Bipa Basket in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Mykolaiv will meet Khimik in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Bipa Basket will play against Kryvbas (#9) and hopes to get finally their first victory.In the last two games of round 3 Cherkasy was beaten by Budivelnyk on the road 75-57. Winless Avantazh-Polit. lost to Zaporizhya on its own court 68-81. The most impressive performance of 3rd round was 19 points and 6 rebounds by Henry Dugat of Budivelnyk.Budivelnyk – Cherkasy 75-57Budivelnyk used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Cherkasy 75-57 on Friday night. The game was mostly controlled by Budivelnyk. Cherkasy managed to win fourth quarter 15-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Cherkasy 40-29 including 25 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Budivelnyk made 7 blocks.
