Russia – Superleague 1 Round 1: Ryazan defeats Urartu Yerevan

DmitryKorshakov The Regular Season in Superleague 1 just started. The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Urartu Yerevan (0-1) at the home court on Thursday night. Hosts were defeated by Ryazan (1-0) 93-89. Ryazan outrebounded Urartu Yerevan 42-31 including 16 on the offensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Dmitry Korshakov (201-91) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 21 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. Swingman Mikhail Karpachev (198-92) contributed with 19 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American center Todd O’Brien (211-89, college: UAB) answered with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds for Urartu Yerevan. Ryazan is looking forward to face Khimky-Podmoskoye (#9) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Urartu Yerevan will play against Samara-SGEU (#4) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win. Another interesting game for Samara-SGEU (1-0) which played on the court of Khimky-Podmoskoye (0-1). Samara-SGEU had an easy win 64-50. Power forward Evgeny Fidiy (207-91) stepped up and scored 14 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and Alexander Korchagin chipped in 11 points and 5 assists. At the losing side center Ruslan Pateev (213-90, college: Arizona St., agency: Alti Sport) responded with 6 points and 12 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Samara-SGEU will play against Urartu Yerevan (#13) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Khimky-Podmoskoye will play against Ryazan (#3) to get more than just one victory in their record. Very important is a road loss of Kupol-Rodniki (0-1) against Ural Ekaterinburg (1-0) on Wednesday night. Visiting Kupol-Rodniki was edged by Ural Ekaterinburg in a tough game in Ekaterinburg 71-74. Andrei Kuzemkin nailed 17 points for the winning side. Aleksey Karpeko came up with 15 points and 8 rebounds for Kupol-Rodniki in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Ural Ekaterinburg will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Kupol-Rodniki will play against TEMP-SUMZ Revda (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals. An interesting game for Irkut Irkutsk (1-0) which hosted in Irkutsk MBA Moscow (0-1). Irkut Irkutsk had an easy win 76-58. Aleksandr Zakharov fired 15 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Irkut Irkutsk’s next round opponent will be Universitet-Yugra (#12) in Surgut which should be an easy win for them. MBA Moscow will play on the road against Novosybirsk and hope to win that game. In the last game of round 1 Univ.Surgut lost to Novosybirsk on the road 71-75.
