Giants set NL Wild Card roster; Nunez out
- Updated: October 5, 2016
NEW YORK — Third baseman Eduardo Nunez was not included on the Giants’ 25-man roster for Wednesday night’s National League Wild Card Game against the New York Mets, clearly demonstrating that the speedster’s injured right hamstring remained tender.
The Giants had hoped to capitalize on Nunez’s considerable speed against Mets starter Noah Syndergaard, whose pitching motion leaves him vulnerable to basestealers. He surrendered a Major League-high 48 stolen bases this season. Nunez, the fastest Giant, stole 40 bases in 2016, including 13 in 50 games with San Francisco.
