Michael van Gerwen resumes his bid for a third World Grand Prix title in five years when he takes on James Wilson in Dublin on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Adrian Lewis joined the five seeds that crashed out in the first round, leaving just Gary Anderson and Van Gerwen as seeded players left in the tournament and MVG was forced to survive a scare himself before seeing off Steve Beaton on Monday.
The world No 1 is the only seed remaining in the top half of the draw and will return to the oche against in-form Wilson in the final match of the evening, with the action underway on Sky Sports 1 from 7pm.
MVG lost to Robert Thornton in last year’s final at the Citywest hotel in Dublin, but was champion of the unique double-to-start format in 2012 and 2014 and is bidding to add to the UK Open, Premier League and World Matchplay titles he has won this year.
