NASCAR Notebook: Regular-Season Incentive

NASCAR is examining whether to provide regular-season point leaders with an additional incentive of reward heading into the Chase.
Currently, the driver that accumulates the most points during the regular season does not earn any added bonus or reward. However, that could change as soon as 2017.
“One of the things we’re looking at is the first 26 races. Are there additional things we could do for the winner of the regular season?” NASCAR Vice President and Chief Racing Development Officer Steve O’Donnell said this week on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio’s “The Morning Drive.” “That’s fair for us to look at, and we are.”
O’Donnell likened the idea to other sports that reward home-field advantage or another perk after the regular season, to be used as a potential benefit during …
