NEW YORK — Mark Teixeira’s baseball life started in a Maryland backyard, where his father, John, taught him how to switch-hit by raking Wiffle balls across the lawn. It ended on Sunday at Yankee Stadium, as the Yankees honored the retiring slugger in a pregame ceremony.

Teixeira, 36, is playing his final Major League game as the Yankees conclude the season against the Orioles. Following a video tribute, the three-time All-Star and five-time Gold Glove Award winner acknowledged the crowd by tipping his cap to all corners of the stadium.

“Everyone knows how content I am,” Teixeira said. “I’ve got a lot of things going on in my life that I’ll enjoy post-career, and I’ve had a great career. No regrets at all.”
