KC shuts down Gee, Cain for rest of season

KANSAS CITY — Royals right-hander Dillon Gee has been shut down for the season after being diagnosed with blood clots after Sunday’s game in Detroit.

“After the game in Detroit, we’re packing up and getting ready to go on the plane and Dillon Gee began suffering from shortness of breath, which concerned the trainers,” Royals manager Ned Yost said. “They took him to the hospital, and it was determined he had developed blood clots.

“[The] trainers did a good job of recognizing it and taking full precaution that there was no danger to him. Luckily they found what they found.”
