Fantasy Football Week 4 Cheat Sheet: Flex Rankings, Projections for Waiver Adds
- Updated: September 27, 2016
Most NFL teams have been in the information-gathering process through the first three weeks of the season. The start of Week 4 is just days away, with the Miami Dolphins and Cincinnati Bengals kicking things off in the Thursday night game, so the final week of coming to conclusions about personnel is upon us.
Once teams finish their fourth games, we will draw conclusions about the remainder of the season. Good players may still have poor games from that point on, and ordinary players may have an occasional standout performance, but the die is usually cast by the time a team has played the first 25 percent of its schedule.
Fantasy football players will still look for matchup advantages after the first four weeks, but players who have performed well to that point will usually continue with their pattern whether they are playing poor, average or good teams.
That’s often a quandary for fantasy owners. The Minnesota Vikings may have an exceptional defense this year based on their performances against the Green Bay Packers and Carolina Panthers in Weeks 2 and 3. Does that mean there should be hesitation for fantasy players who have Eli Manning or Odell Beckham Jr.?
Great players often rise to the occasion, so don’t write off or bench your superstars in Week 4. There’s still one more week to draw conclusions.
Flex Rankings
When looking at the Week 4 flex rankings, we want the best and most talented players, but we also want the most motivated ones.
As a result, we are looking at the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Arizona Cardinals. Both teams were humiliated in Week 3, which means the Steelers and Cardinals should be motivated in Week 4 against the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Rams, respectively.
Neither the Chiefs nor the Rams are pushovers from a defensive standpoint. It’s just the opposite, as the Chiefs intercepted Ryan Fitzpatrick of the New York Jets six times, while the Rams came away with a road win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers one week after holding the Seattle Seahawks in check.
But the Chiefs will soon learn that the Steelers are not the Jets, and there is a chance they could suffer through a humiliation of their own in their Sunday night game at Pittsburgh.
The biggest question is which player to take first. Should it be wideout Antonio Brown or returning running back Le’Veon Bell?
