Eighteen of the 20 Premier League clubs have played in Matchday 6, with only Burnley vs. Watford left on the schedule for Monday. 

Below, we’ll break down Sunday’s result, the updated table and the major storylines from the weekend. 

 

Analysis

Southampton’s 3-0 win over West Ham didn’t have major implications for the top of the Premier League table, but it continued West Ham’s shocking start. A year after finishing seventh and flirting with a top-four finish, West Ham have now taken just three points in six games and find themselves in the relegation zone.

Meanwhile, Saturday was a big day for the clubs in the running for the Premier League table. Arsenal were excellent, beating Chelsea 3-0 behind goals from Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott and Mesut Ozil. 

“It’s one of the best performances in recent years,” Arsene Wenger said in his post-match comments, per the Evening Standard.

He added: “We have had to deal with some inconvenient facts… We couldn’t beat Chelsea for years. To get that out of the system was at stake today.”
