Blue Jays halt skid after players-only meeting

TORONTO — Mired in a four-game losing streak and coming off Friday’s 13-3 loss against the Red Sox, the Blue Jays held a players-only meeting Saturday morning at Rogers Centre before the second game of a three-game series.
It seemed to work as Toronto posted a 3-2 victory to trim Boston’s American League East lead to one.
“I think they just wanted to talk some things out,” Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said before Saturday’s game. “That’s usually typical when you struggle.”
Before their nine-game road trip, the Blue Jays held a two-game lead in the AL East and looked poised to potentially break away from the pack in baseball’s most competitive division. A 3-6 trip followed by Friday night’s blowout loss has Toronto entrenched in a crowded mix.
