Denny Hamlin finally earned a Sprint Cup Series pole this season when he took the top spot for the Federated Auto Parts 400 at Richmond International Raceway. After making the final qualifying round for every race this season, Hamlin’s lap of 122.344 mph in Round 3 was good enough to grab the No. 1 starting position for Saturday night’s final race of the regular season. “It’s nice to finally win one,” Hamlin said after taking the pole. “I didn’t think our car was actually that good but we had speed when we needed it and hope we can translate that into running upfront for a win tomorrow night.” It was the Virginia native’s 24th career Sprint Cup Series pole and third at his home track.
