DavidVojvoda Group ASwitzerland – Cyprus 76-80Cyprus opened win count at the 2017 EuroBasket Qualifying Round. They snatched a road win over Switzerland. Anthony King (206-C/F-85, college: Miami, FL) came up with 21 points and 9 rebounds in the victory. Switzerland grabbed a 45:38 halftime lead. Cyprus however turned things around in the second half. They ignited a 42:31 second half rally to snatch a narrow victory. Iakovos Panteli (187-G-85) tossed in 16 points for the winners. David Ramseier (202-F/C-87) responded with 22 points and 7 rebounds for Switzerland.Belgium – Iceland 80-65Belgium recorded the third straight victory in Group A. They held off Iceland to stay undefeated. Maxime De Zeeuw (205-PF-87) scored 22 points and grabbed 9 rebounds to lead the winners. Belgium grabbed a 20:14 lead ten minutes into the game. Iceland pulled within a single point at the interval. But Belgium held Iceland to just 26 points in the second half and rallied to the win. Jonathan Tabu (189-PG-85) finished with 12 points for the home side. Haukur Palsson (197-SF-92, college: Maryland) responded with 21 points for Iceland.Group BAustria – Denmark 86-66Austria claimed the second victory in Group B. They cruised past Denmark for 2-1 record. Five players scored in double digits for the hosts. Davor Lamesic (205-PF-83, agency: Interperformances) had 14 points in the win. Austria established a 45:30 halftime advantage. They sank 41 points in the second half and marched to the win. Anton Maresch (191-SG-91) contributed 13 points and 7 assists for the winners. Alan Voskuil (191-G-86, college: Texas Tech) replied with 22 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds for Denmark.Germany – Holland 71-75Netherlands revived their Qualifying Round campaign as they shocked Germany in Oberhausen on Wednesday. Nicolas de Jong (210-C-88, agency: Comsport) and Charlon Kloof (190-G-90, college: St.Bonaventure, agency: Octagon Europe) scored 20 points each to pace the Dutch side. Netherlands posted a 40:35 halftime lead. Germany narrowed the deficit in the second half but could not avert the defeat. Yannick Franke (194-G-96) finished with 18 points in the win. Paul Zipser (203-G/F-94, agency: BeoBasket) responded with 14 points for Germany.Group CSweden – Russia 73-85Russia celebrated the second win in a row in Group C. They upset Sweden on the road to stay perfect. Andrey Vorontsevich (207-F-87) scored 20 points to lead the visitors. Russia got to a strong start. They piled up a 21:8 lead ten minutes into the game. Sweden cut the deficit at 9-point mark heading into the fourth stanza. But Russia unloaded 24 points …
