The 5 Arsenal Players Who Could Leave Before the End of the Transfer Window
- Updated: August 30, 2016
Arsenal’s incoming transfer business appears to be close to completion. Having secured deals for Granit Xhaka, Takuma Asano and Rob Holding, they have landed Lucas Perez (via the club’s website) and are on the verge of announcing the capture of Shkodran Mustafi (via Sky Sports).
Once the Mustafi deal is finalised, they will neither need nor have room for any more additions.
However, there could still be a few Arsenal players on their way out of the club before the window closes. In this piece, we identify five players who could depart the Emirates Stadium in the coming hours.
Calum Chambers
This one looks certain to happen. Although Chambers started the first game of the season against Liverpool, he was far from convincing as the Gunners shipped four goals to Jurgen Klopp’s men.
The writing was really on the wall when Chambers was dropped for the subsequent matches against Leicester and Watford, with the inexperienced Holding picked to start instead.
With Mustafi also set to arrive, it looks as if Chambers would find first-team football difficult to come by at the Emirates Stadium. Unfortunately, regular game time is precisely what he needs in order to iron out the weaknesses in his game.
It’s therefore no great surprise that he may be loaned to Middlesbrough. According to Sky Sports’ Paul Vinnell, Chambers will have a medical ahead of a temporary switch to the Premier League new boys.
The fact that it’s a loan deal suggests that Arsene Wenger retains some faith in the England U21 regular. The potential has long been clear, but over the past 18 months, Chambers has struggled to translate that into any kind of form.
Hopefully a spell at Middlesbrough is just what he needs to kickstart his ailing career.
Serge Gnabry
After Gnabry’s outstanding performances at the 2016 Olympics, where he helped Germany secure a silver medal, Wenger insisted his future lay in north London.
Gnabry nabbed five goals in six games, and an enamoured Arsenal boss told Jack Bezants of MailOnline : “I want to keep Serge Gnabry and extend his contract. I think we stood by him. He went to West Brom, didn’t play, we had to rebuild his confidence. I allowed him to go to the Olympics to help Germany. I think he’s …
