Its inhabitants have completed more searches than those of any other city, with Stoke-on-Trent second and Liverpool third.

Sunderland manager David Moyes has been one of the most active bosses as Wednesday nears, with a goalkeeper a priority.

“We’re out there looking, but this club will attract a certain type of player until we’re in a much higher league position,” he said last week.

“Part of it is what becomes available,” Moyes added on Saturday. “It will all get ironed out somewhere this week, because obviously we need a goalkeeper.”
