Novak Djokovic vs. Jerzy Janowicz: Score and Reaction from 2016 US Open

Novak Djokovic was tested in the first round of the 2016 U.S. Open, but he survived with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 win over Jerzy Janowicz on Monday.

There were long rallies and close games early on, but the top seed succeeded thanks to his consistency throughout the match. He also did a great job of winning the points that mattered, saving 10 of the 12 break points he faced.

Janowicz couldn’t keep up and finished with 13 double-faults to go with just five aces.

According to ESPN Tennis, the win moved Djokovic to 46-2 in his career in the first round of Grand Slam tournaments.

Djokovic likely scared his supporters early, when he needed extended time to deal with an arm issue in the first set, as Sports Illustrated described:

A wrist issue worried the Serbian player coming into the tournament, which made the new injury more noteworthy.
