By The Numbers will highlight the Red Wings on-ice accomplishments in the 2015-16 season. Each week during the off-season, By The Numbers will profile a different player on the team, focusing on their statistical highs. This week we focus on goalies Petr Mrazek.
There was a stretch during the regular season when there wasn’t a better goalie in the league than Mrazek. The Red Wings’ netminder posted a 10-2-1 record with a 1.31 goals-against average and an eye-popping .951 save percentage in a 13-game block.
Then the wheels came off as the 24-year-old experienced a rough six-week period and lost his starting job to Jimmy Howard.
Mrazek, who is a restricted free agent this summer, finished with a 27-16-6 record, a 2.33 GAA and a .921 save percentage. He regained his starting role in Game 3 of the Wings’ first-round playoff series against Tampa Bay.
In May, the Wings hired goaltending coach Jeff Salajko to work with Mrazek next season. A former coach with the Grand Rapids Griffins, Salajko will try to help Mrazek boost his confidence.
